KINNAUR - OVERVIEW

Strewn with lofty snow shrouded peaks, apple orchards, quaint hamlets, rivers and their rivulets, and all other alpine wonders one could imagine are set up in Kinnaur.

Kinnaur is a destination to search for solace from the racing world. Famous among tourists for its mysterious hamlets, it has become a well-known getaway for a peaceful vacation.

From the capital district of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla, Kinnaur district is about 235 km away. And about 600 km from New Delhi and NCR.
Surrounded by a ring of three mountain ranges— Himalayas, Dhauladhar, and Zanskar, Kinnaur is located in the extreme north of Himachal, having Chitkul Village, which is seemingly the last township of North India.
Mt. Kinnaur Kailash overlooking Kalpa village is the house of monolithic shiva-ling at a daunting altitude of more than 4800 m above sea level. Believers come from far to offer their devotions to the mighty Lord Shiva.
Granted with many sprinkling hamlets, Kinnaur entices many travelers to stay in them. Chitkul, Nako, Sangla, Kalpa, and a few more villages are visited by many travelers every year.

Another sightseer spot that can be gotten via a narrow track cut on a vertical overhang is The Suicide Point. Its daunting path and picturesque view charm many while going to Roghi Village.

During winters, Kinnaur valley sees a hefty snowfall and many people residing in villages come to lower topographies. The temperature drops below freezing zero harden the upper surface of water bodies, primarily lakes. In spite of that, some winter fans visit the place to enjoy the snow shrouded tranquility. But preferably the best time to visit Kinnaur is in summers and springs.

How to Reach

By Air: Shimla airport is closest to Kalpa. Hired taxi can come to the airport to pick you.

Apart from Shimla airport, pick up from Chandigarh and Delhi airports are also possible.

By Train: Nearest railway station is again in Shimla linked to Kalka. Pick up can be provided from there.

Moreover, Pick up from Chandigarh, Ambala, Delhi, and Kalka railway stations is also possible.

Best Time to Visit

Kinnaur can be explored between March and November.
